The 20th Annual Stars of Lake County Awards program was held on Saturday, February 17th at the Soper Reese Theater. It was a sold out event that celebrated 66 nominees from around Lake County. The event was produced by the Lake County Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by many businesses around the County without whom we could not bring this event to fruition.

David Neft who has provided music during the Reception Hour since Stars began 20 years ago did a wonderful job again; Soper Reese’s’ Jeremiah French ran the lights during the event and Nick Biondo was the master on the sound board, providing music during the presenting of the awards; Shelly Mascari sang the tribute to the nominees accompanied by Monty Brill on the piano. Volunteer ushers for Soper Reese did an excellent job in making sure all attendees found their seats.

The official greeter this year was Chamber President Joe Casteel who also worked the second shift at the bar. First shift for the bar were Chamber members past president Ted Mandrones, Scott Knickmeyer and Jim Goetz.

U.S. Congressman Mike Thompson who has been a participant in Stars since its inception presented his personal certificate to every recipient. He was assisted by Chamber member Toni Funderburg as she handed each category presenter with the Star Award for the recipients. Disney’s Trophies & Awards supplied the awards as they have for 20 years.

Lake Event Design, Beth & Jeff Havrilla and their staff provided outstanding appetizers for all the guests of the event. Special thanks to the Lake County Fairgrounds for providing a substantial staircase with railings for access to the stage; SERVPRO of Lake, Mendocino and Sonoma NE counties transported the staircase and returned it.

For the 20th year, Greg Bennett and Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa provided the very large lighted Star seen in all the photos of the recipients. Bennett actually had the Star built all those years ago for this event and has made it available to us each year.

Lake County Chamber office staff Deanna Fernweh, Kathy Knickmeyer and office volunteers Kathryn Schmid, Barbara Conley and Alice Nihil did all the preparation paperwork and took care of the necessary hundreds of details that an event of this magnitude requires.

Of course, without the residents of Lake County submitting nominations there would not be a Stars program. We had 66 nominations read by our Selection Committee which actually votes on the final recipient in each category. They met for 4 hours on February 1st after being given less than a week to read all the nominations. Their secret ballots were cast as they completed a discussion on each of the 21 categories. Selection Committee members this year were: Robert Boccabella, Linda Diehl-Darms, Brock Falkenberg, Susan Feiler, Greg Folsom, Trena Pauly, Beth Rudiger, Yvette Sloan, John Tomkins, Sandy Tucker and Hedy Montoya.

The Chamber extends congratulations to all the nominees and recipients as you are the Stars in our lives!
